Pizza

Well a friend of mine wanted to have something cheesy and spicy like a pizza ,so i thought instead of him going out and having it, why not i make it at home.

People usually think its a biggie to actually make the pizza dough for its base, well let me tell you making it is even easier than making the dough of the bread rolls that I posted earlier. Its just kneading and leaving it to rise for about 2-3 hours!

A lot of people who had the pizza I made asked me whether I need to bake the base separately first? Which you actually dont have to do! Within 15-20 mins your whole pizza is baked and ready to eat! I didnt go for the making of sauce myself just because I love the pizza topping i have at home! So telling you that its no fuss to bake a pizza at home from the scratch I thought of writing a post on it too.
P.s. for all the health conscious and nutritious food seekers, this dough has whole wheat flour used in it too. So its healthier and more filling!

Ingredients:

(makes 2-3, 6 inch  pizzas)

For the dough:

  • 1 cup of luke warm water
  • 2 tsp dry active yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups all purpose flour

  • 2-4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 tbsp butter

For topping and sauce:

  • 2 tbsp fun food pizza topping
  • 2-4 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp chilly garlic sauce (optional)
  • Assorted chopped vegetables by choice
  • A bowl of grated mozzarella cheese
  • Oregano
  • Salt , pepper and chilly; to taste

Method:

1. In a cup of luke warm water , dissolve sugar and add yeast.
2. In a bowl , bring together whole wheat flour, salt with 2tbsp of olive oil using a spatula.
3. Add yeast after it has bubbled to the flour and mix with a spatula.
4. Add a cup of all purpose flour and mix.
5. Add another cup of all purpose flour and start kneading. Knead till dough with additional water until it comes together and is not sticky and soft. If sticky add little more flour.
6. Oil the ball of dough with olive oil and keep in a oiled bowl covered with damp cloth for about 2-3  hours or until it has risen atleast double its size.
7. Saute garlic in butter and add to the dough when risen and knead a little. Leave for rising a little more for about 1/2 an hour.
8. Preheat oven at 250C. Cut the dough in 2 parts. Grease your tray. (I used a round cake tin's removable base as the tray) Roll the dough ball into a 6-7 round which is 1/2 an inch thick over the tray or first roll and then place on tray.
9. Brush the dough with melted butter and poke it using a fork at few places. Apply the  mix of pizza topping , ketchup and garlic sauce on the dough.
10. Sprinkle some cheese and then add your choice of toppings. Sprinkle and cover with cheese yet again. Season with oregano , salt, chilly and bake in oven for about 15-20 mins or until cheese is golden brown. Slice and serve hot with oregano , red chilly flakes and ketchup as accompaniments.
